UAE Introduces 180-Day Permit to Help Expats Apply for Blue Residency Visa

UAE Offers 180-Day Visa to Help Expats Apply for Blue Residency for Environmental Work

The UAE has launched a new 180-day entry permit for people who want to apply for the Blue Residency — a special 10-year visa given to those who have made big contributions to protecting the environment.

This new permit allows people from outside the UAE to enter the country and stay for up to 180 days to complete the application process for the Blue Residency. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) announced this move to make the process easier.

The Blue Residency is the first long-term residency in the UAE created specifically for people who have worked in environmental conservation, sustainability, and clean or renewable energy. Applicants can be from inside or outside the UAE.

Who Can Apply for the Blue Residency?

According to UAE authorities, the following people are eligible to apply:

  • Influencers and public figures who have a strong positive impact on environmental or climate-related work
  • Scientists and researchers recommended by the UAE Council of Scientists
  • Investors and entrepreneurs working in green or environmental sectors
  • Innovators, inventors, and specialists from government or private organizations focused on the environment

How the 180-Day Permit Works

This new permit is similar to the one offered to foreigners applying for the UAE’s Golden Visa. It is a multiple-entry visa valid for 180 days from the date of entry. It gives applicants enough time to complete all the steps required for the 10-year Blue Residency.

How to Apply for the Multi-Entry Permit

Applications can be made online through:

  • The official ICP website
  • The UAEICP mobile app

The process takes about 7 minutes and includes five steps:

  1. Fill in your personal details
  2. Attach the required documents (such as a passport valid for at least 6 months, a personal photo, and proof of eligibility)
  3. Pay the application fees
  4. Submit the form
  5. Wait for document verification

Once all documents are checked, the permit is usually issued within one working day.

Part of UAE’s Green Vision

The Blue Residency visa was first announced at the World Government Summit in February. During its launch, 20 well-known individuals in the field of sustainability were granted the visa.

This initiative supports the UAE’s larger goal to become a global leader in climate action and environmental innovation. It follows earlier long-term visa programs like the Golden Visa and Green Residency.
